Last night I had to make a big decision about where and how I want my artwork to be seen on the web. I loved being able to post my work on Face Book and Pinterest. I love letting my friends see what I am up to and use my art for personal reasons. However, there are times I hate it. I never google myself. It makes me too mad to see my work stolen and abused. Copyrights removed, people cropping it, using it for profit etc.. Normally when I see this happen. I just email the offender ask that my work is removed. Most of the time, I have no problems. There was one case though that the woman literally argued with me and refused to take my art off. She blocked me and to my knowledge it is still being posted. THAT PISSES ME OFF!
When I joined FB and Pinterest I really did not read all the terms of service. That is not good. I did not realize that they could potentially use my artwork for ads, and profit off of my work. That I can not allow to happen. You can read the potential dangers of pinterest here. Also for you bloggers and anyone in general poor Roni Loren just went through an ordeal over copyright infringement you can read about it here. Personally, I believe the photographer went a little far. But… let her warning sink in and realize that we as artist have the right to decide where and how our art is used.
So from now on I will only be posting my art on my web site. I will link to my work on FB and Twitter, but will not be uploading to any social media site again. I just want to know where my art is and make sure that others will not profit off of my work. I will still post my cover art to those sites because I want to promote the wonderful books I have the honor of working on.
Hope all my followers on the social sites can understand my decision.
I am so sorry to hear that. I as a fan, LOVE looking at your work. It really annoys me that people have no respect for others and thus ruining it for everyone else
I can totally understand why you feel that way! It’s the same reason I never started a page for my photos on fb – I was shocked when I heard that facebook pretty much own the photos/artwork that are posted there (not that I think any of my stuff is worth stealing, lol. it’s the principle of the thing)
You do such beautiful work, I’m sorry you won’t be able to post on Facebook anymore, but definitely understand. Will just have to check out your website more often,
Absolutely understand and agree, honey. You have to do what is right for you. It’s a shame there’s so little common decency left in the world that you have to go to such lengths, but it is what it is. One of my readers re-posted one of your wonderful angel pics to my Facebook page a while back, but it DID still have your copyright mark on it. I was sure to mention in the comments how much I adore your work
I love seeing your new work and I will just travel to your site to do so. In this day and age, people assume it is their right to take and take and get away with it and it’s awful for fans, too. It sucks royally that authors are afraid to give out arcs and artists afraid to share their work because other people are greedy bastards. And fans like me feel awful that our favorite authors and other artists are, in so many ways, helpless against those jerks. People who steal the work of good artists are not fans. If you can protect your work by keeping it on your site, I will just view it here. I hate thieves.
It’s just so sad that you have to do this at all, but I complete understand where you’re coming from and don’t blame you one bit. I love your work and like everyone else here I will just come to your site to see it from now on.
I am so sorry this has happened to you. I love your work. To be honest no one can compare to you in my opinion. Its a shame that theres people out there taking credit for your work. Hopefully that wont happen again. Good luck!!!
I’m having to change the pictures on one of my blogs because of this. Actually it turned out for the best because I found and bought better pictures
I love you art work and I am sorry people have abused that trust. Thank you for still putting it out there through another forum for those of us in different hemisphere.
Im sorry that you had to do this. I can’t believe that there are people and websites that feel they can do what they want with others works. Be it art or a story. When will they learn that others put in time and there hearts into what they make and that it hurts when it’s used by people who are cheap jerk offs they can’t give credit where it’s due. I’m sorry to see you go from Pinterst I really enjoyed all the stuff you pinned. If you want me to I’ll delete my board with your artwork on it. I understand why you did it but st least your true and loyal fans still can see it here.
It’s too bad this happened to you. You are a very talented artist, and cover artist. It’s difficult to find a cover artist that can fabricate the way you do, and I’m irritated you now have to cut back your advertising pool because of greedy people. But, I hope you make a great big angels section here, too
I totally understand! I will only use the purpose of your work for discussion and research purposes. Thanks for all that you do and I will email you from my personal account on the details of the assignment and questions.
Admire and Fan,
Kate Hartung
I am so sorry that anything negative has happened to you because you deserve only positive energy for bring such creativity into all of our lives.
Thanks all for understanding! So sorry about the late reply. xoxox
Latecomer to your website — just read this post. I had no idea that Facebook takes ownership of anything posted there, and it didn’t even occur to me that people would just steal your work like that. I wanted to show your gorgeous work around and get the buzz going for both your work and my novel coming out, but now I realize how naive I was being. So sorry — taking it down right away! If any of my friends wants to see it again from here on out, buy the book!
It’s “Sorcerer’s Vendetta” and you betcha Trish did an awesome job!
